I propose the /mentor system be removed. When it first came out I think it was a great system and people who helped newbs trully got rewarded, this was also a time that newbs were also persecuted, so the mentor system allowed them some protection. I think in the recent time the mentor system has only came to be abused and useless.

This also ties into the level 10 to trade/settle kingdoms. This was a great way to prevent mentor buying, but nowadays the amount of mentors and the amount of newbs needing mentors is so minimal this has just became a hinderance for low level players. New players want a game they can enjoy from the start. If they create ana ccount and have to play for hours to be able to do anything in the game but kill monsters than I think this makes alot of players quit before they can even start to enjoy the game.

If /mentor was removed and the level 10 requirements removed I think this would reopen the game up to having alot more newbs, and alot more newbs should resolt in more access players and then more active sose players.

I think this change would not hurt anyone (except maybe jimcav :P, but he should still be covered in donations). Only thing removing this could do is help the game have more newbs, and players who want to see RWK be back active would be willing to help the newbs become good players and mentor them for free.

if anyone has any other suggestions or comments please post them.

I agree 100% with the fail that is level 10 requirement. Takes FAR too long to do ANYTHING.

Make it level 1 again.

Buying Mentor is not an issue aside for proxy IP and if you see someone abusing it, ban them. Banning people is awesome when they cheat.

If the mentor reward system were taken out again I think /guide should still work because the newbies still need some way to talk to someone else, though there is some abuse with that too. At the least we have some other form of communication for them with the rest of the world in those cases where they are so frustrated they are about to quit. And it is very reasonable to drop the level 10 requirement then too, I think I see more newbs talking about how long it takes to level than actual legitimate guide requests anyway.

I agree, /guide can still be useful without /mentor.

Or just make it very simple and remove both /mentor and /guide and allow players to use chat and trade right from level 0. If a newbie has a question he can simply ask it in shout and get various abusing and helpful replies like most other games.

Ideally, I'd also like to see the /ignore command expanded to allow more names so it's easier to block the inevitable abuse from a$$holess starting new characters just to spam chat. It would also be great to make the ignore list, or a variation on it, persistent so it carries over from login to login. However, that's something we've been requesting for years and probably will never get.

I'd also add a help link to the front end sending players to the /help site. If there is obvious "HELP" right in front of them, some newbies will have the sense to click it and learn a bit about the game for on their own. Others will take us back to the early days when people used to ask how they revive while the word "Revive" floats on the screen before their eyes. Hence the request for a more versatile ignore command. However, remembering how long the "Panic" link was on the page I gather it's not so trivial to change the player interface so that will probably not happen.

I think that /guide, /mentor and the level 1 and 10 restrictions have all outlived their usefulness and should be removed to give new players a better initial experience. At this point I agree that grinding the first 10 levels just to be able to really start playing does more harm than good.
