The having a chance of getting 2x ash when ashing idea wouldn't devalue ash much, seing that maybe 95% or more of the ash comes from lottery, pe's, ashen rocks and EEoA's (that is an estimate but you get the idea).
However, I see absolutely no reason to impliment such update. I can think of a ton of other updates/improvements of the game that jeff could spend his time on. For instance: He could balance the different classes.
The idea of being able to craft earthens would most likely devalue ash since some ash are being used for upgrading demos and earthens. Seing that gold tends to lose value faster than ash, this would probably not be a good idea. I am, however, in favor of adding new craftable items that requires very high tradeskills.
